Top Tip Challenge #43

Good Morning Top Tippers - this week it's my turn (Carol) to share a tutorial with you.
However, this tutorial is a little different...

Challenge - 'Shaped Cards'

I didn't want to limit my 'tutorial-time' to one shape of card so I thought I'd give you a few ideas for a few shapes!
That way you may be able to get some ideas and go and see what you have in your stash that you could turn into a Shaped Card!

On to my Shaped Cards...

Some of these cards I did make quite a while ago - some I've made especially for this challenge (please don't forget to be eligible for the prizes in this challenge you have to link a new card - not one that has been seen on your blog prior to this weeks challenge).

Double Fold

This is a simple folded card I made before 'Step Cards' came into our lives!
It is simply an A4 piece of card folded.
I threaded a piece of ribbon through punched holes in the centre valley fold so as it did not 'open' too far.

K - Card

This card is made using a WS Designs 'K Card Template'.
These templates are available in lots of sizes and shapes and take all of the hassle out of measuring, cutting and then having to measure again and cut again!
(if you're anything like me!!!)

Roni

Another template card here - Arty Farty this time...Roni Highchair
This type of 'card' makes a beautiful Keepsake for any new baby.
TIP - Always use a wet glue when making anything like this - the glue breaks up the card fibres on each piece you are fixing, resetting them once combined. This gives a much stronger and long lasting fix.

Dome Card

This is a Dome Card and this one is so simple even I don't need a template!
Fold an A4 piece of card off centre and use the largest section as the 'dome', folding a tab along the outer edge to fix it to the back piece. Cut out your window, affix acetate and decorate inside and out before you fix the edges together.

Boot Cards

These 'Boot Cards' I made using my own template - it was quite simple to draw the boot, cuff and sole so they all went together and actually looked like a boot! Well, it took me a few drafts but I got there! These were made for my Mum and her twin brother who both love gardening.
Tip - You could make your own templates in various gardening shapes - Flowerpot, Watering Can, Wheel Barrow - Just be aware of where in your design you are going to have the 'fold' of the card so it will actually open and stand.

Shaped Card Blanks
...can be used with Digi Images

...or with photos to make an extra special Personalised card

Image Outline

Print your Digi Image as 'tall' as the blank you want to use. Cut about half of the front panel off (vertically!). Cut around your image - fix image over the cut edge of the front panel. Ensure your glue/tape doesn't get on the half that will be visible on the inside.

This card didn't want to stand open nicely - the front and back couldn't be seen together - so I scored another fold about 1 cm into the back section. This now allows it to stand nicely and I can also 'close' it on the original fold to fit in the envelope!

Don't forget for this week's challenge you need to make a
Shaped Card
No plain square or rectangle cards allowed!

Now some 'Shaped Cards' from our fabby DT's...
And you'll notice that there are quite a few projects using Ebony from
The Emerald Faeries Garden

Please visit the DT's blog's for more info on their projects
and leave them a comment, DT Members love comments too...
...and really appreciate them :)
