On to this week's tutorial...
I am going to show you a cool Triple slider card technique that I found on the Splitcoast Stampers site. Now slider cards are really quite simple to do, you just have to create a slider for your card and then complete the card as you wish. I have been busy with this beautiful (and now retired) DSP from Stampin' Up! called Tea Party. I just love every bit of the beautiful colors and images and decided to use this for my slider card. So, on with the tutorial.
I cannot decide if I want to use this side of my dsp....
or this side??
I suppose you will just have to follow me through the tutorial and see what I end up with!
I got the instructions for making this cool slider card from the Splitcoast Stampers Site. (Yeah, I know, I said that already) You can find the tutorial here or you can just follow along as I blunder my way through.
You will need DSP in the following dimensions and cardstock to coordinate if you want.
I did use these dimensions from the tutorial for my card, however, you can make these any dimensions you want...
• One 11 5/8" x 4 1/2" piece of patterned paper
• One 10 3/4" x 3 3/8" piece of patterned paper
• One 9 3/8" x 3" piece of patterned paper
• Two 1/2" x 2 7/8" strips of cardstock (slider tabs)
• Coordinating Cardstock to layer images and punch out tabs
• One 7/8" x 2 3/4" piece of neutral cardstock (for top image)
• One 1 3/4" x 3" piece of neutral cardstock (for middle image)
• One 2" x 3 1/2" piece of neutral cardstock (for bottom image)
Once you have your pieces cut, you are ready to start putting your slider together.
Starting with the shortest piece of cardstock, you are going to score at 3 1/8” and 6 3/8”.
On the next larger piece, score at 3 3/8” and 6 7/8” and the largest piece score at 3 7/8” and 7 ¾”.
On these two pieces you are going to cut your slots for the slider tab to go into. The slots are cut 1” from the edge of one flap and 1” from the score line of that same flap.
On the larger piece the slots are ½” from the top and measure 2 ½” long.
On the shorter piece the slots are cut ¼” from the top and measure 2 ¼” long.
When you have completed your cutting and scoring – stamp your neutral cardstock with the images that you have chosen. You will not be embellishing the smaller pieces as they need to be flat to slide in, however if you want to matte them with a coordinating color, go ahead and do that now.
You are now ready to put your card together. Starting with the shortest piece of DSP
(the one that you have not cut slots in)
- attach your pull tab to the left top – with the front of the tab facing down.
Next, attach your smallest piece of neutral cardstock (with stamped image) to the middle panel of this piece. Now, you want to take your next piece of DSP and place it face down on your work surface.
Weave the ½” strip of cardstock in the slot then turn the paper over so the right side is facing up and gently fold the ends of the strip – being careful not to make it too tight otherwise your slider won’t work.
Now, turn this piece back over so that it is face down and attach sticky strip to the back of the strip.
Now you are going to take the first piece and place it over this piece making sure that the slider tab is at the bottom of the slot and lining up the score lines.
You may have to play with this a little to make sure that you have the slider in the right position – meaning that you aren’t seeing the back of your slider when you pull it up.
~Smile~
When you have the piece attached to the slider mechanism, make sure that it works properly and then use sticky strip to ‘close’ this piece, being careful not to hinder the slider.
Now, you are going to repeat this process for the next piece.
Placing the slider piece in the slot and bending it over so as not to hinder the slide from sliding up then adding the sticky strip.
You will take your first completed slider part and add it to the last one so that you have them layered together........ I know, clear as mud!
When you are all done folding and making sure your sliders work properly, you can attach the entire mechanism to a card base and embellish as you desire.
I have chosen to do a simple embellishment with some ribbon across the top of my sliders and the buttons on the neutral cardstock, I did add a bit of ribbon to my pull tab as well.
I really didn't know what I wanted to do with my completed card and since this was my first time making one of these types of cards, it was just an experiment anyway (that turned out fine).
When you pull the tab gently, you will see the next tier.
and when the pull tab is pulled completely up, this is what you will see......
You basically create a pocket within a pocket within a pocket, but inside two of those pockets is the sliding mechanism!!!
I put mine on a full card base, that way I can add a message if I want to to the inside of the card. Next time I make one of these, I might just add more images, rather than using a background stamp as I did here. I also will use different words - these were supposed to be in reverse, so that you would see picture on the front, then when you pulled the first tab you would see perfect and the top one would say friend - but as I said, this was an experiment and I like the slider idea.
Some ideas for sentiment might be – ‘Thanks So Much’; ‘Wishing You Blessings’; ‘Happy (insert number here) Birthday’; ‘Happy Wedding Day’; ‘I Love You’, etc.
You can also use images and have the top panel display your sentiment.
Designer Series Paper works best instead of cardstock for layering since it is thinner and won’t catch – but have fun with this one.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and that you will take some time to make this fun card.

So to the DT's inspiration this week...
Tip - Stamp an image, cut it out & "Pop" it up for 3D effect.
Mix ribbon textures & colors in the bow for coordination and interpretation of the card
